Oncology Clinic, County Hospital Ryhov, Jönköping
Are you a licensed hospital physicist looking to work in a well-functioning organization in one of Sweden's most development-oriented and stable regions? If so, you are warmly welcome to join our team in hospital physics in Jönköping.
The Role of Hospital Physicist in Radiation Therapy
As a hospital physicist, you will contribute to providing safe and high-quality radiation therapy in collaboration with other professionals. You will ensure and participate in the safe and effective use and application of advanced techniques in radiation therapy.
You will assist in developing optimal dose plans in collaboration with physicians and dosimetrists. You will perform checks of individual patients' dose plans, conduct calculations and control measurements, participate in treatments and CT examinations, and carry out quality controls of equipment. You will also contribute to the development of new methods and techniques. For those of you who are more experienced hospital physicists, there is an opportunity to lead your own projects and sub-areas. In the role of hospital physicist, you will work closely with physicians, dosimetrists, and treatment staff in radiation therapy at County Hospital Ryhov. You will also interact with medical technology and participate in collaborations with hospital physicists within the southeastern healthcare region as well as national collaborations in radiation therapy.
The position is a permanent full-time employment with a start date according to agreement. Working hours are during weekdays in the daytime, and your workplace is at County Hospital Ryhov in Jönköping.
Your Future Workplace
Hospital physics is part of the oncology clinic at County Hospital Ryhov, which is a regional clinic with approximately 180 employees responsible for non-surgical treatment of cancer diseases. The clinic is active in research, and a large number of research studies are ongoing in radiation therapy.
We have 14 hospital physicists and one MR physicist within the areas of external radiation therapy, medical and dental radiographic diagnostics, nuclear medicine, and MR physics. All hospital physicists are gathered in modern facilities that are shared with radiation therapy at County Hospital Ryhov. The facilities are directly adjacent to nuclear medicine and radiology/MR, providing fantastic proximity to the operations we work with the most.
In radiation therapy, you will have the opportunity to work both clinically in close collaboration with dosimetrists, physicians, CT, and treatment staff, as well as with pure hospital physicist tasks such as QA and dosimetry. Being part of radiation therapy and working in the same facilities gives us unique opportunities to collaboratively design new workflows and routines.
The radiation therapy equipment consists of three linear accelerators (Varian, TrueBeam) with surface scanning systems (C-rad, Catalyst) and a CT (Siemens, Somatom go.Open Pro). In the fall of 2026, a replacement of linear accelerators and surface scanning systems will begin to meet future needs. Through close collaboration with the Radiology Clinic, we have access to both MR and PET-CT with the patient in treatment position. We handle common cancer diagnoses such as prostate, breast, lung, head and neck tumors, and palliative treatment. In addition, we also provide advanced treatment techniques, such as stereotactic treatment including vertebrae and lymph nodes.
Your Profile
We are looking for you who are a licensed hospital physicist or newly graduated with expected licensing soon. Experience working as a hospital physicist in radiation therapy is desirable but not a requirement. You need to have good language skills in both spoken and written Swedish and English. Since travel may occur in the position, it is also desirable that you have a B driver's license.
The work is constantly evolving and involves increasingly advanced systems and techniques, for example, AI is used in certain areas. Implementation and operation of these systems require knowledge and monitoring to maintain safety.
If you are not already a specialist, you are expected to undergo ST training to obtain specialist competence. Supervision can be offered on-site.
You are eager to take your own initiatives to start new activities that lead to development. Your ability to structure your work is good, while you can easily adapt to changing circumstances. You also see opportunities in changes. You have a natural ability to lead and coordinate groups to achieve common goals and achieve good results together. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
Our Offer to You
With us in hospital physics, you will not be alone in your job. There are good opportunities for guidance and assistance from both ST physicists and experienced physicists. To ensure a good start, you will receive a tailored introduction and shadowing based on your experiences. Through well-established management systems both within radiation therapy and hospital physics, we have order and clarity, making it easy to get into the work. We also offer you good opportunities for continuous professional development.
We apply the Swedish Hospital Physicists Association and the Swedish Society for Radiophysics' program for specialization training, and the new specialist training will start in 2026. Currently, we have 7 hospital physicists with specialist training and 5 ST physicists (of which 4 specialists and one ST in radiation therapy).
